A storm in the tea cup of political correctness!

We had some pretty awful weather yesterday. One might even think that it was still winter. I had to laugh today though when I was reading the Daily Mail. There were pictures of the storm and one in particular was of a couple with a pushchair. Standing on a walkway or somewhere. As they were standing there a wave which had broken against the wall (which is why the wall is there presumably...to break waves) showered them. They looked like they were having a lot of fun. The caption read something like "no prises for responsibility". I think this was implying that these parents were being irresponsible by being that close to the sea with their baby daring to have fun whilst in the middle of a storm. To the writer of that caption I say...bugger off, find a job in a local council and ban the use of something or some nursery rhyme that might offend some minority, ban Christmas or even better, get a life. People having fun is not the worst thing in the world...people criticising them is!

I was also reading a story about forced marriages. I am confused by the whole issue on the government stance over how muslims are to be integratged into British society. On the one hand, there is uproar when it is suggested that we incorporate Shariah law within our own legal system even though it's argued that this would bring the good muslim people closer to our old colonial boosom. On the other hand we are also trying to argue now that we should criminalise a custom that I believe is widely accepted in the muslim community as a way of life. I am not condoning this practice in any way, however I think the government should be a little clearer on the messages it is giving out to an apparently disenfranchised part of society.

Finally, on the same broad topic, an idea has been floated that kids at school should pledge allegiance to the queen, US style. School teachers are up in arms. Why? Isn'it better for the "hoody, bullying, happy slappinng, mug you for your mobile, chuck things at your granny when she's on the bus, throw stones at your windows, stab you when you confront them" generation swear allegiance to the queen as opposed to gang leaders or drugs or gun dealers? I am surprised that teachers would object considering they are also always complaining themselves that children lack discipline these days. However I suppose for a lot of teachers, it is getting to a point where people like the moron caption writer from the Daily Mail above have regulated their profession so much, if it gets any worse, we'll actually be paying them to do nothing. Herald the age of digital and podcast learning for primary and secondary school age children at home.
