Budget or Bocth-it

Well another budget rolls past. According to the government another triumph, another budget that reflects the brilliant planning and execution that has underpinned the current government throughout its entire reign. However ask anyone else who is not a self satisfied Labour MP and it seems as though just about everyone else is pissed off (except the single pensioner who owns his/her own property and will be a bit better off). I'm not just talking about conservative or libdem counterparts but the man on the street.

The thing I find really sad in all this is that when New Labour came into power, they were promising possitive change and lots of it. If you believe what they say, they have made great changes. Don't believe it for a second. New Labour was a rebranding exercise and their constitutional changes and reforms have been little more than the same. Their budgets under Gordon Brown as chancellor were almost highlights of the year as interest rates went down and home owners, property developers and city types became richer than they ever had been.

Now we are in a bit of trouble because what is happening across the Atlantic and the shine is beginning to dull a bit on the chrome of Labour's economic policy. They are still trying to tell us that things are better than they ever were even though the property market is looking like an old and withered balloon and the city is suggesting caution. After 11 or so years of being told that we do in fact have the greenest grass in the world, I think that we are starting to see that even our grass is beginning to "brown" a little. What is quite insulting is the fact that the government seems to think that we can't see through their hype and shine. I think the word "deluded" and the phrase "drunk on their own power" spring to mind. I only hope as a country that we have the sense to vote the other lot back in next time round if only to shake things up a bit and let the government know that we will not settle for mediocrity, failure or arrogance from our public servants.
