"I hope that Michael and his family can now begin to rebuild their lives and plan for his future," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary. Commenting on the pardon given to Michael Shields, Chris Huhne said:
“Today’s decision by Jack Straw to pardon Michael Shields is long overdue.
“Michael has maintained his innocence throughout his four year ordeal in prison, and the confession by another man of this crime has finally allowed for his very welcome release.
“We must ensure that this situation is never repeated. I hope that Michael and his family can now begin to rebuild their lives and plan for his future.”
