DIAGEO PROPOSAL WELCOMED BY KILMARNOCK MSP

PLAN KEEPS JOHNNIE WALKER IN KILMARNOCK

Commenting after the Diageo taskforce led by John Swinney agreed a proposal to put to Diageo to retain production at Port Dundas in Glasgow and to develop a new bottling plant in Kilmarnock SNP MSP for Kilmarnock Willie Coffey who was at tonight's taskforce meeting said;

"We have agreed a proposal to put to Diageo and it is now for them to be true to their word and to negotiate with the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise.

"We understand Diageo's need to build their business but you do not do that by abandoning your roots.

"Workers at Johnnie Walker have stood by the plant in good times and in bad. This proposal gives Diageo the opportunity to return that loyalty and stand by workers in both Kilmarnock and Port Dundas."
