We owe a debt of gratitude to the Gurkhas

At Prime Minister’s Questions, David Cameron called for a new category to be added to the immigration guidelines to allow more Gurkhas to settle in Britain.

David said we owe "a debt of gratitude” to the Gurkhas and stressed we must “honour our commitments” to them.

He condemned the Prime Minister’s proposals as “too restrictive” and warned that they would only allow around 100 Gurkhas to settle, according to estimates from Gurkha representatives.

David proposed that an additional category should be added to the Immigration Bill currently before the House of Commons, aimed specifically at those who have served in the armed forces.

He stressed this would allow a “more generous settlement” for the Gurkhas, and described it as a “reasonable and responsible” way to honour our obligation to those who have served this country.
