Green condemns "authoritarian, failing" government over his arrest

Damian Green, the Shadow Immigration Minister, said he was “very pleased” with the Crown Prosecution’s decision not to charge him over Home Office leaks.

But he stressed that his arrest was a sign that Labour have “been in power too long”.

"One of my jobs as Conservative immigration spokesman is to expose the many failings of government immigration policy. That's precisely what I was doing in this case and that’s why ministers were so embarrassed."

Damian condemned "the first arrest of an opposition politician for doing his job since Britain became a democracy" - and said:

"I cannot think of a better symbol of an out-of-touch, authoritarian failing government that's been in power too long."
